Adeline is two months old

Adeline is now two months old and up to about 10.5 lbs.  She is a bright eyed and super smiley baby who loves to have people in her face talking, singing and smiling at her.  She sometimes looks at you like she has something sweet to say.

Of course, my maternity leave flew by.  I'm headed back to work next week.  But, I've really enjoyed lazy mornings of nursing and snuggling with Adeline.  Fortunately, she just had her first couple of nights sleeping in two 4 hour blocks.  Up until now, she was still eating around the clock every two hours.  I did manage to avoid supplementing so I'm sad that Adeline will need to switch to bottle feeding  (and me to pumping) during the day.  But, I know she will be in good hands with Sheryl while I'm at work.

Oliver is occasionally sweet to her (patting her gently, reminding me to feed her when she cries, or shaking a toy for her so she will smile and kick her legs), but otherwise continues to do his own thing and simply accepts her as a part of our family (though he still has no interest in holding her).

After two months, we now remember a lot of what we forgot about having a baby, and we learned that Adeline is a baby that is very easy to love.

Sweet moments

It has been a busy past few weeks adjusting to Adeline's arrival and enjoying several house guests.  The time was filled with some wonderful moments.  In particular, Adeline getting to know some of her friends and family.

Cheers to Joe

Today is Joe's birthday.  I'd say it was a (new) typical day in most respects.  However, I am pretty sure Joe got a few more phone calls, changed a few less dirty diapers, and ate more cake than usual.  For the coming year, I hope that Joe feels the love, appreciation, and adoration we have for him.  Happy Birthday to the best husband and father a family could ever have!!!

Adeline (aka "Jada") is here

Adeline Jane Marx (or "Jada" if you are her big brother who refuses to call her by anything else) arrived at 6:59 AM on December 24, 2015, weighing 8 lb, 5 oz and measuring 19.5 inches long.

Surprise induction started on the 23rd after a low heart rate reading at her 40+ week nonstress test.  Despite the unexplained anomaly in the readings and further monitoring showing no issues, doctors advised the safest route was to birth baby sooner rather than later.

Although I have nothing good to say about the labor and delivery, I will say that the post-delivery was perfect.  She was crying, in great health, and took to nursing right away.  We got to hold her and daddy got to cut the chord.  She has been with me ever since.

Oliver and Joe hung out at the hospital for the afternoon.  Oliver loves his baby sister.  Though he refuses to call her Adeline.  When we told him her name is Adeline, he said: no it is not.  Her name is Jada because that is the name I chose, so that is what I am calling her.  He has not wavered.

Adeline and I will miss out on Christmas morning with Joe and Oliver, but they are coming back to the hospital to open some gifts with us after seeing what Santa left under the tree.  We plan to bring Adeline home on the 26th.

Congratulations to Bonnie

While this post won't do justice to the shear dedication, hard work and long - hours, Oliver and I would like to congratulate Bonnie (Mom!) on making director (i.e., partner) at SKGF, a very well deserved honor !  Congratulations!  We love you!!!

Thankful

We were told that during circle time at school today the kids were asked to say what they are thankful for.  Oliver said two things....

(1)  Thankful that his Daddy was bringing Myrtle home from school today.*
(2)  Thankful for his Mommy carrying his baby sister in her uterus.

I am indeed carrying his baby sister as shown in these pictures from a couple weeks ago (34 weeks pregnant):

*Once Oliver discovered many months ago that there are two Myrtles (one at home and one that was left at school for nap time), he decided that the two Myrtles needed to be together on the weekends.  He looks forward to bringing Myrtle II home every weekend.
